Student Poster
Contest
The student competition will be awarded in two
categories:
Each category will be judged on the basis of visual
quality and technical or scientific merit, although these factors may be
weighted differently in each category (visual quality weighted higher
for maps, technical/scientific merit weighted higher for research
presentations).
The best entry in each category will be awarded $250,
and two honorable mentions will be awarded $75. The judges may combine
categories or reduce the number of prizes if fewer than three quality
entries are received in any category.
Posters can be a product of the student’s coursework,
research area, or personal work, and must have been completed after
August 2004. The work must have been done while a student at an
educational institution in one of the five SWUG states, but the
submitter does not need to be a student nor live in a SWUG state at the
time of the conference. Posters produced as a result of paid employment
(including both internships and academic research assistantships) are
not eligible for the student competition, but may be entered into the
professional competition. A student may submit only one poster.

categories:
-
Printed Maps (including image maps)

Each category will be judged on the basis of visual
quality and technical or scientific merit, although these factors may be
weighted differently in each category (visual quality weighted higher
for maps, technical/scientific merit weighted higher for presentations).
Prizes and certificates will be awarded to a winner and two honorable
mentions in each category. The judges may combine categories or reduce
the number of prizes if fewer than three quality entries are received in
any category.
Posters can be the result of any level of professional or academic work,
and must have been completed after August 2004. Each author may submit
only one poster, and must work in a SWUG-constituent state (UT, AZ, WY,

Registration and Submission Instructions (for both
competitions)
To be considered, participants must register posters by September
17th by sending an e-mail to the poster organizer (Brandon Plewe, plewe@byu.edu).
The registration must include a title, name and institution of the
author, and a 200-word abstract summarizing the purpose of the project,
the software, techniques, and methods used, and the intended audience of
the poster. The registration must also include a digital copy (in PDF,
JPEG, or other common format), or an address where such can be obtained.
The first 10 students registering a poster will be given free
registration to the conference!
Maximum size for all posters is 60"x36" (either orientation). Because
this year's competition is part of ESRI SWUG, all submissions should
have been created using ESRI software.
The printed posters may be brought to the conference or mailed to the
poster organizer. In either case, the poster must be received by the end
of the first day of the conference to be considered in the competition.
Unregistered posters may also be brought to the conference for public
display, but are not eligible for the competition nor guaranteed display
space. The submitted title and abstract will be displayed next to each
poster.
