SWUG 2005 - Recreation Opportunities

Questions: conference@swuggis.org

Call for Cyclists:

Park City is loaded with options for excellent mountain biking. On Sunday, September 25, at 6:00 PM there will be a guided mountain bike ride for any cyclist that feel they'd be in good enough shape to ride 3000 vertical feet and 15 miles of beautiful Park City. If there is interest, another ride will be available on Wednesday after the conference. If you'd like to go, email Kevin at kevin.bell@slcgov.com.  RSVP, or he won't be there to show you around, although trail maps are available in town, for hiking and biking.

Park City Mountain Resort

Summer adventure awaits. Race down the Alpine Slide and fly through the air on the exhilarating ZipRider™. Discover a whole world of fun for the kids at the Little Miner's Park. This summer, it's your family's turn to experience the cool alpine beauty and excitement of Park City Mountain Resort.

Deer Valley Resort

Deer Valley Resort has offered chairlift-accessed hiking, mountain biking and scenic rides since 1992 from the mid-mountain Sterling chairlift. For the second season, the Resort will also operate the Silver Lake Express chairlift from the Snow Park base area, from which guests can transfer to the Sterling chairlift at the Resort's mid-mountain area, allowing them the chance to rise from 7,200 to 9,400 feet in altitude, all on scenic chairlifts.

Timpanogos Cave National Monument

Timpanogos Cave National Monument sits high in the Wasatch Mountains. The cave system consists of three spectacularly decorated caverns. Each cavern has unique colors and formations. Helictites and anthodites are just a few of the many dazzling formations to be found in the many chambers. As visitors climb to the cave entrance, on a hike gaining over 1,000 feet in elevation, they are offered incredible views of American Fork Canyon.

Heber Valley Historic Railroad

The Heber Valley Railroad is Utah's magnificent steam passenger railroad. It's an historic tourist attraction based in Heber City, Utah. Trains cross the farmlands of the Heber Valley, follow the shore of Deer Creek Lake and descends into a majestic and breathtaking canyon. The track follows the Provo River to Vivian Park in Provo Canyon.

Utah Olympic Park

Cradled by the Wasatch Mountains, the 389-acre Utah Olympic Park is a unique setting as the Olympic site for nordic jumping and the sliding sports of bobsled, luge and skeleton. The state-of-the-art park is used for national and international competitions and serves as a year-round training ground for development and high-performance athletes.

Provo River Fly Fishing

The Provo River offers a premier blue ribbon trout fishery close to Utah's major cities. Brown and rainbow trout reach record lengths in the Provo, with a typical fish running 17 inches or bigger. One of the largest fish caught on the Provo was over 30 pounds! In some areas of the Provo, 7,500 trout are found per square mile. As a result, the pristine waters of the Provo River provide exceptional exhilaration and outdoor adventure! The Provo River is only a 15-minute drive from Provo, or an hour and a half from Salt Lake City.
